Bennison Brown | Carbon Neutral

Carbon Neutral

Bennison Brown is a carbon neutral company.

Over the past few years, we have consciously made the effort to reduce our energy consumption across our London and Bristol offices. We reviewed our daily routine and looked at ways we could reduce our impact on the environment by recycling, lowering heating, ensuring lighting and plugs are only turned on when required and eliminated tangible marketing material. We also actively encourage our employees who work from home to reduce their energy use at home and promote environmentally friendly ways of working.

We have a team at Bennison Brown who meet every quarter to discuss our carbon footprint and ways of how we can further help the environment. We believe that even small, simple changes can have a huge positive impact.

At the start of 2022, we set ourselves a goal of becoming a carbon neutral company.

To achieve this, we worked with ClimatePartner. ClimatePartner calculate companies CO2 emissions, identify emission hot spots, and help develop CO2 reduction strategies.

Our total carbon emissions from working from home and across our London and Bristol offices in 2021 and 2022 was 43, 637 kg CO2e. As most of our staff work remotely, the key emission hotspots were purchased electronic devices and home office use. Due to our renewable energy use, emissions relating to electricity were low.

To become carbon neutral, an organisation must purchase carbon offsets that either result in carbon reductions, efficiencies, or sinks.

Our 2021 offset project was a Wind Energy Farm in Brazil.

The project is the implantation and operation of 14 wind power plants in Northeast Brazil. This provides clean and renewable electricity which is important contribution to environmental sustainability as wind energy is created without burning fossil fuels.

There are also many socioeconomic benefits to this project, specifically for the local community. The project helps provide training and education to local teachers and the construction of new schools. It supports producers to reduce poverty in the local areas by increasing productivity and reducing inequalities by the development of basic infrastructure in rural households. It also helps provide vital clean water, food and sanitation to the local community.

Our 2022 offset project is a Solar Energy plant in Morocco.

Energy from solar panels is created without burning fossil fuels and it is considered emission-free. The growth of renewable energy production is essential to prevent global warming and secures energy supplies for the future.

By replacing some of the fossil fuel-based energy with clean electricity, the project saves about 134, 620 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. The plant is in Ait Ougrour which is located around 200km southeast of Marrakesh. It provides many job opportunities for local people as well as promoting the development of solar energy in the country and worldwide.
